The University of Texas MD Anderson Cancer Center (MDACC) is a leading comprehensive cancer center and academic institution located in Houston, Texas. Internationally recognized for its excellence in patient care, groundbreaking research, and cancer-focused education, it is consistently ranked the top cancer center in the United States, thus the world. The Cockrell Foundation made its first grant to MDACC in 1972, during Virginia Harris Cockrell’s tenure as a board member. In gratitude for the exceptional care she received—and in alignment with the founding donors’ intent and the Foundation’s mission—MDACC was designated a major focus organization of The Cockrell Foundation’s philanthropic support.
