Rooted in the enduring values of the Cockrell family, The Cockrell Foundation is steadfastly committed to creating lasting, positive change through thoughtful and strategic philanthropic giving. Guided by the vision of its founding donors, Ernest H. Cockrell Jr. and Virginia Cockrell, the Foundation channels its resources to strengthen communities, champion education, advance health and medical research, support youth initiatives, and enrich cultural institutions—notably those with deep ties to both the Cockrell family and the history of Houston and Texas. Since its founding (chartered in 1966 and established in 1957), the Foundation has become a vital force across Greater Houston, granting tens of millions to institutions such as the University of Texas at Austin, the Houston Museum of Natural Science, MD Anderson Cancer Center, and Methodist Hospital Foundation, among others.
